Mastering basic math skills - dividing numbers, measuring area, or reading a graph - is critical to finishing school and earning a middle-class living. In a nation founded on principles of equality, Nashville's schools have not delivered on the promise of an equal education for all.

Answering the "call" to teach

The Nashville Ledger recently profiled career-changers who found a path into teaching through Nashville Teaching Fellows. “Teaching was always something I felt a ‘calling’ to do, but I never had the confidence,” said Lisa Preston. “When I saw the opportunity to be a Teaching Fellow, where they’re hitting areas where other teachers refuse to go, I knew immediately that’s where I needed to be.” Do you feel the call?
