Program Overview

Nashville Teaching Fellows is a highly selective program that trains accomplished professionals and recent college graduates to become high-impact teachers in schools serving high-need students throughout the Metro Nashville area. As a Fellow, you will begin making a difference for students right away, joining a network of dynamic Nashville teachers working to end a legacy of educational inequality.

Why Join

The need is real. Only 12% of Nashville's African-American high schoolers score "advanced" in math, as compared to 26% of white students. Only 77% of Hispanic students in Nashville graduate high school, compared to an overall 86% graduation rate. The average ACT score for Nashville's students is 19--several points below the basic minimum requirements for Tennessee's state universities.  Be instrumental in changing these statistics. Who We Want

There is no one profile of an ideal candidate, but Nashville Teaching Fellows is highly selective because every student deserves outstanding teachers. Fellows may be experienced professionals who are looking to make a career change, or they may be fresh out of college and ready to put their academic expertise to work for Nashville school children. How We Help You Make a Difference

You will benefit from a streamlined application and selection process and, if selected, will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive Pre-service Training before entering the classrooms as full-time teacher in the fall. You will pursue your teaching license while serving as a full-time teacher and earning a full-time salary. During your first year, you will complete licensure coursework through TNTP Academy. Throughout your training, you will benefit from a rigorous, classroom-centered curriculum designed specifically to prepare teachers working with high-need students.You will also receive meaningful feedback and personalized professional development support to help you build skills and achieve excellence in the classroom.

About Us

Nashville Teaching Fellows is a partnership between Metro Nashville Public Schools and TNTP (The New Teacher Project), a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the achievement gap by ensuring that high-need students get outstanding teachers. Founded by teachers in 1997, TNTP partners with school districts and states to implement scalable responses to their most acute teacher quality challenges. Since its inception, TNTP has trained or hired approximately 43,000 teachers, benefiting an estimated 7 million students nationwide. It has established more than 75 programs and initiatives in 31 states and published four seminal studies on urban teacher hiring and school staffing.
